    I never give five stars, but this time I will. From the start, the host was extremely polite, considerate and a real gentleman. I think it's a good sign when a small Italian restaurant has male waiters over 40. They know what they're doing and they really engage with the customer. This is the type of wait staff you will find here. I was also impressed with the solo musician performing live music. Great selection of music, impressive set up. I loved the interior, especially the light fixtures. I loved the wedding pictures by the bar area too. I wanted to get up on a chair and look at all of them up close. Nice wood flooring too. Finally, the food. It was amazing. Really. We had mussels in garlic butter/white wine sauce and it was fantastic. The bread we dipped into the sauce was also wonderful. Then we had artichoke/spinach pizza and then rigatoni in vodka sauce with grilled shrimp, and o. m. g. I just don't have the words!! Perfection. That is all I can say. I am going to start recommending this place to all of my friends. Definitely go here if you haven't already.

    Great food and great service! I've only been to Cariera's twice, but both times the food was delicious. This last time, my mom and I both had lasagna. The portions are big, so we both only ate half of our servings. The waitstaff is very attentive and professional. As soon as we were finished with a dish, they swept it away quickly. Our leftovers were boxed quickly and our water glasses were always full. Cariera's has a real family atmosphere. I love local places that take pride in their food and care about their customers. I'll definitely be back...maybe for Holy Cannoli day!

    Can't wait to go back. My husband and I loved this place. We have already planned a date with our best friends. We love pizza and so we really should try theirs...but it will be hard to not order pasta. It is so wonderful there.

    Jacob and I have been to Cariera's twice and had decent experiences both times. The atmosphere is nice; both times we went there was a guitarist playing soft tunes. One major gripe (and why I won't give them 5 stars) is the fact they have bad seating. They have too many tables and not enough space. Both times they stuck us in the corner with a tiny 2 person table which was about 8" away from the diners seated next to us. When you're eating [big] Italian food, those little tables are just not big enough. Another thing that keeps them at 4 stars is their service. Both times we had friendly waitresses, but they are stretched too thin. We sat waiting to order after being seated and looking over the menu for about 5 minutes. And refills are hard to come by because the waitresses are busy tending all the other tables. So you may be wondering why I'm giving them 4 stars? Well, simply put, they have good food. Their pasta is great, their chicken is juicy and well-cooked and the complimentary bread they serve is delicious. Cariera's is no Roman Village, but when I want Italian with less of a drive, it's where I'll end up.

    I love Italian food! My boyfriend also loves Italian food, but is not as crazy about all the bread and pasta that usually comes with it, plus it is a little bit expensive (though worth it), so we do not come here as often as I might like. GENERAL I love the ambiance here. It really is how I imagine a little Italian cafe to be. I really should not say little, because it is a medium-sized restaurant, but it has a cozy feel. FOOD They have a fairly diverse menu, but both times I have been here, I have had the Pollo (chicken) Marsala. My boyfriend gets the Tenderloin Portabella. We also love the breadsticks with olive oil. I believe if I did not insist on only eating a couple because I know I want to enjoy my meal as well, I could probably just eat breadsticks and go away full. My chicken marsala is a large portion and comes with a side of pasta in sauce. The chicken is delicious, moist and juicy. The sauce is wonderful. I am not as thrilled with the sauce on the pasta, but it is okay. My boyfriend always seems to enjoy his meal as well, and I have had a bite of his entree once or twice and it was very good. One time, we also had dessert. We ordered the Ultimate Chocolate Cake. I probably do not need to say it was delicious, but I will. It was delicious! I only wish I could leave room for it every time. SERVICE I have never seen a server who was not polite and somewhat friendly. Both times we have been it was early in the dinner period (around 4pm) so they were not very busy. They are always quite timely and when you are done, they box up your food and neatly write the dish name and the date on the box. Even many of the nicer restaurants I have been to do not do this. I will definitely be back many, many times and this restaurant is now on our top 4 favorite places to go for dinner around home.

    If I eat it, everything is really great. I love their breadsticks, Caesar Salad, and pasta! I like that they have delivery service but my food usually arrives cold and I'm only five minutes away. But on those lazy days, the microwave warms it up just fine. The staff at this restaurant are always pleasant and accommodating. Nice and cozy atmosphere. Enjoy coming here.

    Maybe this place is good for a person who's never been to a real Italian Restaurant in Manhattan. But I have and can't stand the McDonalds version of Veal Marsala or Chicken Piccata. Next time I'll go to Mario's in Detroit or Moro's in Allen Park for the real deal.

    After going to the gym with one of my girlfriends, we decided we wanted to go out for a pizza! Since we are both a fan of Carriera's we opted to go there. It was a Friday evening and we walked into the restaurant, quite a few tables were occupied, but there were a few still open. So, we took one of them! We ordered 1/2 carafe of cabernet - house cab, and a pizza with pepperoni, onions, tomatoes, green pepper, mushrooms, and bacon!!!! OMG, my mouth is watering as I'm typing this review!!!! The waiter brought us out some bread, I know this is an oximoron since we ordered pizza, but we needed something in our tummys to soak up that cabernet! I had one of the breadsticks and boy was it ever delicious! We are sitting there and noticing that the place is filling up mighty fast! This is great because whenever I go here on a week-day it appears to not have too many customers. But, not tonight, it is hopping! A man comes in with a guitar and sets up in the corner and voila' there is music. Too bad I'm with a girlfriend, because this could have been mighty romantic. The owner stops by and says hello and checks to make sure everything is up to par, which is a nice touch by the way! Our pizza finally arrives. OMG how beautiful. I look at my girlfriend and we say what a perfect picture!!! But, that does not stop us from diving into this beautiful piece of art! Or shall I say mouth watering best pizza!!!! Carriera everytime I come to you you keep getting better and better! Thank you so very much for keeping the quality so high.

    I love this place...I've been eating here most of my life, it was a different Italian restaurant prior which was also good but I didn't care much for their pasta sauce but this place, I love their sauce. I've had various items on the menu & I have never had an issue with any of it from pizza to lasagna I've always left satisfied. Their house dressings (Italian or creamy Romano) are so good though the fact that they don't have ranch bothers a friend of mine (I say live a little). Their bread is yummy & most importantly their service is great. The place is small & they usually have a guitarist playing some nice background music when I'm in. I also need to be sure to suggest this place for baby/bridal showers...they don't open on Sundays until 4 so from 11-3:30 they offer banquets & from what I've heard the prices are very reasonable & I hate showers but I never miss one of it's here!

    I love this place, it's not pretentious, it is just a family Italian place with good food and decent prices. You can almost always find a $5 off coupon somewhere, either in the local saver you get in the mail or on their own carryout menu. I love their chicken marsala and chicken cacciatore. My husband loves the filet gorgonzola, which I don't even think is on the menu anymore, but they will still make it and it is incredible (two filets smothered in gorgonzola cheese, mushrooms, and a white wine sauce). I've had the chicken tosca, it is also really nice especially if you love lemon. The cannelloni is very good. It's not old and dirty like some old Italian places, it has a pretty good atmosphere, but can get pretty hectic by the door and small bar area as they do quite a bit of business.

    My friends who live in Dearborn swear by this place so we went out to dinner with them a few weeks ago. I am Italian and my father was raised there, as well as my family still lives there so I am kind of a Italian food snob. Suffice to say, this place did not disappoint. I ordered the seafood ravioli and it was delicious. The bread they brought to the table was great but the oil and spices plate to dip into was a bit salty for my taste. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food and the service was good. I will for sure go back there but since it's not all that close, it won't be unless we go with our friends or are in the area.

    One of my favorites.......there isn't one thing one the menu I've had and didn't like. Salads are fresh, appetizers are great starters and the main course dishes are amazing. I am a pizza person and this place ranks amongst the best in the area. The owners care about their customers, their employees, their food and their service.....what more can a customer ask for?

    This family owned restaurant has the best Italian food I've eaten since new york city's little Italy. Minestrone soup was so yummy and chocked full of veggies. Tender veal piccata seasoned just right. Huge portion of lasgna. Yummy desserts.

    I write this post with a heavy heart... My husband and I have been going to Cariera's for over 10 years, in fact, we had one of our first dates here. We went the night before Valentine's day. Made a reservation, got in right away (that was the highlight). This used to be a cozy, diamond in the rough with fresh food and lovely people working there. Today, it has morphed into an almost "commercial" like setting. The sad truth, they sold out. First, we ordered the Calamari Fritti, our favorite. It was like eating flour. ABSOLUTELY NO SEASONING, the "aioli" was a curdled mess and the marinara was nothing but garlic. Here's the sad part, I asked to talk to Cathy (the owner) to remedy the situation. In a nutshell she said to me "Oh, that sucks, 'll tell the kitchen", patted my back and walked away. Really?? When we finally got our food. It was sloppily thrown together on the plate and was, to be polite, sub-par. A slight shadow of what it used to be. My husband ordered the "Vitello Aragosta". It looked like a plate of puke (that cost $22.50). I ordered the "Pollo DiMara", which ended up to be 2 sickly looking chicken tenderloins, 2 overcooked shrimp, soggy peppers and a sauce that was basically uncooked wine and lemon juice. I didn't even eat half of it. I knew it was pointless to complain. So, in closing, it saddens me to say that this visit was the death of Cariera's to us. Loyal customers for over 10 years.. What a shame. (Our server, Zach, was great though!)

    Delicious food & attentive service. My partner had the daily special, steak & gnocci. The steak was cooked to perfection, & so tender it melted in her mouth. I had the gnocci...delicious. We both had cannolli's for dessert, her's the regular, mine the chocolate. The waitstaff was knowledgeable, & timely every step of the way. We will be returning soon.

    We picked this place off of yelp, not knowing anything about Dearborn, MI. The service by Michel was exceptional, making suggestions that were spot on. Even my grandma was happy! A nice place for a delicious Italian dinner!

    What a nice little family restaurant. Ambiance is quaint, cozy, clean and the service is good. Went here today with a party of 9 and the staff was really attentive. Food was well prepared and everyone seemed to like what they ate. I am a sucker for an independent family owned place and this is it. I don't see why anyone would go to a chain Italian Restaurant when there are places like this that exist out there for the same price.

    Ambience - Very nice and clean place. They have live solo guitarist at dinner to set a more romantic mood. Service - Wait staff has always been above average. Food/Drinks - Food is above average with large portions. Overall - I have ate here many times and enjoyed every meal I have tried. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a very nice sit down meal.

    My brother and I went for dinner as sort of an all occasion celebration - birthday, thank you - love you. We arrived around 4:00 PM, there was only one other table. This made me a little leery even though we were not there during any sort of rush, boy was I mistaken. Everything from the service to the food was just about as good as it gets! I chose the shrimp scampi and my brother the chicken special of the day. Both dishes were not only very generous but absolutely delicious! My brother said the sauce on his was the best he had ever tasted! It was a Parmesan cream sauce that covered chicken breast, portabella mushrooms and linguine among other things. He even used the bread to clean his plate LOL. My scampi was also very good. Served on a bed of angel hair pasta and a side of nicely steamed vegetables. Just the right amount of seasoning and covered with toasted bread crumbs - Delicious! The salads were also very good I loved the tanginess of the Italian dressing over the mixed greens, just right. However I could have done without the tomato (not in season and not the right color) or garbanzo beans. Moderately priced, excellent service, easy to get there, outstanding food, nicely decorated and clean- we'll definitely be back!

    What a nice surprise. I was in the mood for Italian and we just happened to be driving by, so we stopped in. The food is good - typical Italian fare well prepared and decently priced. What earns Cariera's a four star review, though, is the service. From the host, to the waitress, to the bus boys, every single encounter we had with a Cariera employee was solicitous and designed to enhance our enjoyment of the meal. Which they did. At the end of the meal, we were given a 10% off card to encourage us to visit again. Which we will.

    I had my wife's farewell occasion (you might call it a funeral party) here. It was incredible. Owner's were accommodating, wait staff attentive and caring and the food sublime!They opened early on a Saturday and served my 80 guests flawlessly. It was first rate, top shelf and exactly the send off that I wanted.

    Given the reviews I was expecting more. We went in after a tough day at work for both of us, looking like stressed out wrecks (me in my audit wear, which is not very business like) but in pleasant enough moods. We got seated by a friendly guy and then came our waitress, wooden and just not welcoming. We gave her our drink orders and she brought them out after a few minutes with a plate of olive oil with some finely crushed red pepper bits. No bread though. It took us a minute to decide. She seemed impatient so I explained it was our first visit. That did not thaw her a bit. When she returned again, still no bread, still with the blank stare. I asked about the soups, she said they had smhmd pepper. I said wha? I couldn't hear that. She looked at me like I was a moron and said slower, smhmd pepper soup. I looked at my husband, clueless, he shrugged like "hell if I know". I ended up with a nice-ish salad instead. The creamy romano tasted nice and homemade on it but the lettuce was fairly cheap and one note (I like mixed greens). My husband ordered pepper soup despite not knowing what the hell he was getting. It turned out to be stuffed pepper soup and it was quite good. We giggled about it though. We finally received our bread with this course. The bread here is good but the second basket we got later in the meal went hard really quickly, like it had been nuked. I know the ways of nuked bread, I often heat up leftovers. This bothered me though. I don't like when they microwave the bread, it's lazy and I am not paying for leftovers dining in, I want first run. I have a tip for our waitress too, if you do not feel like refilling our glasses do not give us pop in wine glasses, use big kid glasses or pour us a pitcher and we can refill our own. Leaving us without beverage is the surest way to annoy my husband. James ordered a combo meal of canneloni and fettuccine alfredo for his main. He and I each liked both but we loved neither. The canneloni was nice and meaty. The tomato sauce on top though was agressive and on the acidic side, very little herb or garlic. For a *baked pasta* it was anorexic on the cheese. The alfredo sauced fettuccine made him happier, not too gloppy, the pasta was nicely al dente and the dish was rich without being overwhelmingly so. I had the tortellini san vito, tri colored with sausage coins and roasted red peppers in a parmesan cream sauce. Mine was tasty, I liked the herbage in the sauce and that it was not super thick. The sausage in it was meh, not really anything to impress me at all, fairly bland. It could have used more red peppers too. The serving size was a plus as I ended taking half home. It reheated tasting the same as first round. We ended up getting cannoli for dessert, one plain and one chocolate covered. They came out icy cold and a bit hard. I prefer that to soggy though. It tasted fine but not freshly made (nor freshly filled on site). I wish I had remembered Debbie's review. If I had paid less I would have been less picky. I think the waitress added to the dissatisfaction as well. I debated between a two or a three but decided the waitress was what was pushing me to a two and decided to give Cariera's itself the benefit of the doubt. I'd go back but only with a deal and I'm not racing back or anything. Given the attitude to new customers by the staff I don't think they care one way or another if I return.

    The ambiance is great in here especially on a Friday night. They have a guy who plays guitar and sometimes sings all of the great hits from different genres of music. On to the food. No matter what you get, the portions are a nice size. The bread they bring out on your arrival is very tasty, especially when it is warm. We've had the veal, the pizza, tortellini, and several other pasta dishes. Everything is great, and the meat is always tender. Also, for kids, the chicken fingers were really good. We've been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks, so that's a sign of the delicousness therein.

    Lets start by saying I really enjoy the ambiance. The minute Me and my friend walked in the door we were greeted and seated within 20 seconds flat, seriously if they had a world record for how fast you could be seated in a Restaurant these guys would win. Anyway our waiter was friendly and delightful as well. Lets start with the fresh bread sticks that are pipping hot right from the oven along with fresh olive oil. We ordered the calamari which came with two sauces, it was very tasty I just though the calamari could have been cooked just a little longer but other then that it was a traditional appetizer. I ordered rigatoni with a spicy blush sauce and meatballs. The sauce was amazing. It was a mixture of spicy aribiata and alfredo, with the meatballs and parmesan cheese it was delicious. And I must say hands down they have some amazing minestrone soup! They make it very different then most places I go to but none the less they have absolutely nailed it in my opinion. Overall 5 star experience I highly recommend this to anyone in the area.

    My first visit to Cariera's (tonight) can be described in one word--Yummy! The Minestrone soup, especially, was out of this world. (FYI: It is not your typical, tomato-based version.) My only "complaint" is the small charge ($1.50) for asking to split a bill. Seems silly to me, especially when it is only 2-3 people. Will go back again...with cash so as to continue to avoid that fee.

    Cariera's describes itself as a casual fine-dining restaurant. I think that's a pretty good description. The restaurant seems simple and casual, yet somehow classy. It's a restaurant where you can have a casual meal with family, friends or business partners. It's also a restaurant you could take a date to or celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Back in high school, we even dined there in our evening wear before school dances. On the weekends there is often a little live music in the background. It's nothing overpowering, just some nice acoustic guitar or string bass. It really sets the mood. Between the ambiance, decor, food and wine, you may imagine yourself in Italy rather than snowy Michigan. The food is scrumptious. I particularly like the gnocci with marinara sauce, fettuccini alfredo with grilled chicken, and the creamy romano dressing on the house salad that comes with the entree. The salad can be substituted for soup, and they usually have a pretty tasty minnestrone. The Italian eatery recently added outdoor seating. Smoking is now only allowed at the bar and on the outdoor patio, I believe. The restaurant also offers catering and has a take-out menu.

    If you like Olive garden...do not come here. If you love Deluca's, stay away. This is good food. The diverse dishes and fresh sauces, make this a full head and then some above any other Italian restaurant in the area. I had the peppered chicken , Penne pasta with peppered chicken which was so tender and flavorful, green and red pepper, garlic and oil dressing. There was so much, I got lunch for tomorrow! The bread basket has the freshest bread and dip of garlic, salt and olive oil. The house Italian dressing is creamy, but not the thick gooey type you find in most other places. You can also get an oil based Italian dressing, which has the best herbs and spices. They do have a small herb garden just outside the front door...could be where most of that comes from. Reservations are recommended but the wait is worth it.

    Though everything I posted in my previous review was from the heart, I have to say the last few times I have been in Cariera's it has been less then stellar and I may never return. Cariera's has Changed their menu, increased the prices across the menu and no longer has things that long time patrons expect. Things here have taken a turn for the worse since the Death of the owner and family taking over the business. Its just not the same place anymore and it shows. I wish it was not true.

    If your familiar with Italian dining in Detroit, you will know there is an abundance of very good place to get your fill. They are all great and I think all the arguing about the best italian is regionally based on what you know, and what is close to you (kinda like italian bakeries... it's the best because you have been going there since you were 5). I have done the test and ate at most of the good italian spots around town and cannot say one is better than the other because they are al amazing at what they do. I was giving a $50 gift certificate to this place by uncle because him and my grandmother hold it in high regard. I cannot argue with their taste, the place was great. My girlfriend got a tri-colored pasta that she was not particularly happy with, but not due to poor execution, more because of personal taste. I don't remember what I had the first time, but I went back again so it had to have been good. We happened to go on a friday our first time so there was a nice band playing to a packed house. My second time around was bit more disappointing. The food was still very good (gnocchi in a bolognese), but the service had changed significantly. Upon delivering the unfinished half of my pasta to my grandmother she informed me the change in food and service was due to the death of Mr. Cariera. She said she won't be going back now because "the sauce doesn't taste the same". I still think the food is pretty good though.

    I have been known to make a drive to go to a great restaurant. I first found out about this restaurant through my mobibo app, and a few weeks later I was asking some friends for somewhere new to take a date. Someone threw this restaurant out in the mix, and so I decided to give it a shot. Was definitely the right choice to make. I told my date where we were heading, and that they specialized in Italian dishes. She had previously mentioned she was a fan of Italian food, but failed to mention that it was her favorite kind of food. Jackpot so far, and I am praying they lived up to the recommendations through food and service. We arrived and were seated, then opened our menus. Everything sounded so good. Tried to stick with something I knew, so that if it didn't pan out in my favor I didn't lead my date to my non-verbal passing of judgement on the food or our experience. She ordered the Pollo Tosca (if I remember correctly), and I had the Linguine Carbonara. Seemed like white wine would go best with our meal, so I ordered a bottle of white Italiano wine haphazardly , and I think I got it right (I really am not good at picking out wines). Everything seemed to be going very well, we had smiles all around and talked about how good our meals were. The Carbonara was amazing, just the right flavor of Carbonara sauce and bacon and not too much onion. Perfect. I did not try my dates meal, as it was a first date and that would have been awkward in my book to be sharing food already. So sorry, no judgement on her dish, but she seemed to like it very much. We drank some wine, did some more talking, and our waiter seemed to know what was going on and tried to stop over only if needed in order to not interrupt our conversation. At least that is what I believe to have happened, if not I wouldn't have been too angry. The price was a little up there, but then again I took the bottle home with me, so it seemed reasonable for that. Great atmosphere, great service, and really great Italian food. Highly recommended for those in the area. Made a first date for me go really well!

    This place looks a bit sad from the outside, but on the inside you will find a warm, inviting, slightly upscale decor. Live music is frequently present on Friday and Saturday nights. The food is tasty, particularly the house Romano dressing, the parmesan breadsticks, and any kind of pasta you choose. And the kicker is the prices are extremely reasonable, much less than you would expect to pay for this nice of a restaurant in the Detroit metro area.

    This is a nice, relatively small restaurant that is pretty good. Yesterday was my 2nd time there, and it was nice. They had a live singer which added to the ambiance. The bread is so delish, good luck with your willpower on that. The salad (With house italian dressing) is okay, nothing special. I like the eggplant parmasean, and the special of the night I ordered, "Asiago Filet" was really good. Really I should have split it with someone. The wine carafes are reasonably priced also. Hostess was pleasant, as well as the server.

    It was quite busy when we went for dinner. The food was delicious, and the service was acceptable, considering how full it was. The noise level was extreme.     Great veal and the best tirimisu I ever had! Every time we have been there they have had a very talented guitar player there that plays a mix of standards and smooth jazz like covers of rock songs. He keeps the volume on the guitar down to a conversation level so you don't have to worry about having to yell and it wont hurt your ears. The food and service is excellent! And the dining room is very clean. I recommend Cariera's to everyone!

    Delicious food & attentive service. My partner had the daily special, steak & gnocci. The steak was cooked to perfection, & so tender it melted in her mouth. I had the gnocci...delicious. We both had cannolli's for dessert, her's the regular, mine the chocolate. The waitstaff was knowledgeable, & timely every step of the way. We will be returning soon.

    What a nice little family restaurant. Ambiance is quaint, cozy, clean and the service is good. Went here today with a party of 9 and the staff was really attentive. Food was well prepared and everyone seemed to like what they ate. I am a sucker for an independent family owned place and this is it. I don't see why anyone would go to a chain Italian Restaurant when there are places like this that exist out there for the same price.

    After going to the gym with one of my girlfriends, we decided we wanted to go out for a pizza! Since we are both a fan of Carriera's we opted to go there. It was a Friday evening and we walked into the restaurant, quite a few tables were occupied, but there were a few still open. So, we took one of them! We ordered 1/2 carafe of cabernet - house cab, and a pizza with pepperoni, onions, tomatoes, green pepper, mushrooms, and bacon!!!! OMG, my mouth is watering as I'm typing this review!!!! The waiter brought us out some bread, I know this is an oximoron since we ordered pizza, but we needed something in our tummys to soak up that cabernet! I had one of the breadsticks and boy was it ever delicious! We are sitting there and noticing that the place is filling up mighty fast! This is great because whenever I go here on a week-day it appears to not have too many customers. But, not tonight, it is hopping! A man comes in with a guitar and sets up in the corner and voila' there is music. Too bad I'm with a girlfriend, because this could have been mighty romantic. The owner stops by and says hello and checks to make sure everything is up to par, which is a nice touch by the way! Our pizza finally arrives. OMG how beautiful. I look at my girlfriend and we say what a perfect picture!!! But, that does not stop us from diving into this beautiful piece of art! Or shall I say mouth watering best pizza!!!! Carriera everytime I come to you you keep getting better and better! Thank you so very much for keeping the quality so high.

    Ambience - Very nice and clean place. They have live solo guitarist at dinner to set a more romantic mood. Service - Wait staff has always been above average. Food/Drinks - Food is above average with large portions. Overall - I have ate here many times and enjoyed every meal I have tried. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a very nice sit down meal.

    Maybe this place is good for a person who's never been to a real Italian Restaurant in Manhattan. But I have and can't stand the McDonalds version of Veal Marsala or Chicken Piccata. Next time I'll go to Mario's in Detroit or Moro's in Allen Park for the real deal.

    Given the reviews I was expecting more. We went in after a tough day at work for both of us, looking like stressed out wrecks (me in my audit wear, which is not very business like) but in pleasant enough moods. We got seated by a friendly guy and then came our waitress, wooden and just not welcoming. We gave her our drink orders and she brought them out after a few minutes with a plate of olive oil with some finely crushed red pepper bits. No bread though. It took us a minute to decide. She seemed impatient so I explained it was our first visit. That did not thaw her a bit. When she returned again, still no bread, still with the blank stare. I asked about the soups, she said they had smhmd pepper. I said wha? I couldn't hear that. She looked at me like I was a moron and said slower, smhmd pepper soup. I looked at my husband, clueless, he shrugged like "hell if I know". I ended up with a nice-ish salad instead. The creamy romano tasted nice and homemade on it but the lettuce was fairly cheap and one note (I like mixed greens). My husband ordered pepper soup despite not knowing what the hell he was getting. It turned out to be stuffed pepper soup and it was quite good. We giggled about it though. We finally received our bread with this course. The bread here is good but the second basket we got later in the meal went hard really quickly, like it had been nuked. I know the ways of nuked bread, I often heat up leftovers. This bothered me though. I don't like when they microwave the bread, it's lazy and I am not paying for leftovers dining in, I want first run. I have a tip for our waitress too, if you do not feel like refilling our glasses do not give us pop in wine glasses, use big kid glasses or pour us a pitcher and we can refill our own. Leaving us without beverage is the surest way to annoy my husband. James ordered a combo meal of canneloni and fettuccine alfredo for his main. He and I each liked both but we loved neither. The canneloni was nice and meaty. The tomato sauce on top though was agressive and on the acidic side, very little herb or garlic. For a *baked pasta* it was anorexic on the cheese. The alfredo sauced fettuccine made him happier, not too gloppy, the pasta was nicely al dente and the dish was rich without being overwhelmingly so. I had the tortellini san vito, tri colored with sausage coins and roasted red peppers in a parmesan cream sauce. Mine was tasty, I liked the herbage in the sauce and that it was not super thick. The sausage in it was meh, not really anything to impress me at all, fairly bland. It could have used more red peppers too. The serving size was a plus as I ended taking half home. It reheated tasting the same as first round. We ended up getting cannoli for dessert, one plain and one chocolate covered. They came out icy cold and a bit hard. I prefer that to soggy though. It tasted fine but not freshly made (nor freshly filled on site). I wish I had remembered Debbie's review. If I had paid less I would have been less picky. I think the waitress added to the dissatisfaction as well. I debated between a two or a three but decided the waitress was what was pushing me to a two and decided to give Cariera's itself the benefit of the doubt. I'd go back but only with a deal and I'm not racing back or anything. Given the attitude to new customers by the staff I don't think they care one way or another if I return.

    I never give five stars, but this time I will. From the start, the host was extremely polite, considerate and a real gentleman. I think it's a good sign when a small Italian restaurant has male waiters over 40. They know what they're doing and they really engage with the customer. This is the type of wait staff you will find here. I was also impressed with the solo musician performing live music. Great selection of music, impressive set up. I loved the interior, especially the light fixtures. I loved the wedding pictures by the bar area too. I wanted to get up on a chair and look at all of them up close. Nice wood flooring too. Finally, the food. It was amazing. Really. We had mussels in garlic butter/white wine sauce and it was fantastic. The bread we dipped into the sauce was also wonderful. Then we had artichoke/spinach pizza and then rigatoni in vodka sauce with grilled shrimp, and o. m. g. I just don't have the words!! Perfection. That is all I can say. I am going to start recommending this place to all of my friends. Definitely go here if you haven't already.

    If I eat it, everything is really great. I love their breadsticks, Caesar Salad, and pasta! I like that they have delivery service but my food usually arrives cold and I'm only five minutes away. But on those lazy days, the microwave warms it up just fine. The staff at this restaurant are always pleasant and accommodating. Nice and cozy atmosphere. Enjoy coming here.

    What a nice surprise. I was in the mood for Italian and we just happened to be driving by, so we stopped in. The food is good - typical Italian fare well prepared and decently priced. What earns Cariera's a four star review, though, is the service. From the host, to the waitress, to the bus boys, every single encounter we had with a Cariera employee was solicitous and designed to enhance our enjoyment of the meal. Which they did. At the end of the meal, we were given a 10% off card to encourage us to visit again. Which we will.

    Great food and great service! I've only been to Cariera's twice, but both times the food was delicious. This last time, my mom and I both had lasagna. The portions are big, so we both only ate half of our servings. The waitstaff is very attentive and professional. As soon as we were finished with a dish, they swept it away quickly. Our leftovers were boxed quickly and our water glasses were always full. Cariera's has a real family atmosphere. I love local places that take pride in their food and care about their customers. I'll definitely be back...maybe for Holy Cannoli day!

    I had my wife's farewell occasion (you might call it a funeral party) here. It was incredible. Owner's were accommodating, wait staff attentive and caring and the food sublime!They opened early on a Saturday and served my 80 guests flawlessly.     I write this post with a heavy heart... My husband and I have been going to Cariera's for over 10 years, in fact, we had one of our first dates here. We went the night before Valentine's day. Made a reservation, got in right away (that was the highlight). This used to be a cozy, diamond in the rough with fresh food and lovely people working there. Today, it has morphed into an almost "commercial" like setting. The sad truth, they sold out. First, we ordered the Calamari Fritti, our favorite. It was like eating flour. ABSOLUTELY NO SEASONING, the "aioli" was a curdled mess and the marinara was nothing but garlic. Here's the sad part, I asked to talk to Cathy (the owner) to remedy the situation. In a nutshell she said to me "Oh, that sucks, 'll tell the kitchen", patted my back and walked away. Really?? When we finally got our food. It was sloppily thrown together on the plate and was, to be polite, sub-par. A slight shadow of what it used to be. My husband ordered the "Vitello Aragosta". It looked like a plate of puke (that cost $22.50). I ordered the "Pollo DiMara", which ended up to be 2 sickly looking chicken tenderloins, 2 overcooked shrimp, soggy peppers and a sauce that was basically uncooked wine and lemon juice. I didn't even eat half of it. I knew it was pointless to complain. So, in closing, it saddens me to say that this visit was the death of Cariera's to us. Loyal customers for over 10 years.. What a shame. (Our server, Zach, was great though!)

    My brother and I went for dinner as sort of an all occasion celebration - birthday, thank you - love you. We arrived around 4:00 PM, there was only one other table. This made me a little leery even though we were not there during any sort of rush, boy was I mistaken. Everything from the service to the food was just about as good as it gets! I chose the shrimp scampi and my brother the chicken special of the day. Both dishes were not only very generous but absolutely delicious! My brother said the sauce on his was the best he had ever tasted! It was a Parmesan cream sauce that covered chicken breast, portabella mushrooms and linguine among other things. He even used the bread to clean his plate LOL. My scampi was also very good. Served on a bed of angel hair pasta and a side of nicely steamed vegetables. Just the right amount of seasoning and covered with toasted bread crumbs - Delicious! The salads were also very good I loved the tanginess of the Italian dressing over the mixed greens, just right. However I could have done without the tomato (not in season and not the right color) or garbanzo beans. Moderately priced, excellent service, easy to get there, outstanding food, nicely decorated and clean- we'll definitely be back!

    This is a nice, relatively small restaurant that is pretty good. Yesterday was my 2nd time there, and it was nice. They had a live singer which added to the ambiance. The bread is so delish, good luck with your willpower on that. The salad (With house italian dressing) is okay, nothing special. I like the eggplant parmasean, and the special of the night I ordered, "Asiago Filet" was really good. Really I should have split it with someone. The wine carafes are reasonably priced also. Hostess was pleasant, as well as the server.

    Jacob and I have been to Cariera's twice and had decent experiences both times. The atmosphere is nice; both times we went there was a guitarist playing soft tunes. One major gripe (and why I won't give them 5 stars) is the fact they have bad seating. They have too many tables and not enough space. Both times they stuck us in the corner with a tiny 2 person table which was about 8" away from the diners seated next to us. When you're eating [big] Italian food, those little tables are just not big enough. Another thing that keeps them at 4 stars is their service. Both times we had friendly waitresses, but they are stretched too thin. We sat waiting to order after being seated and looking over the menu for about 5 minutes. And refills are hard to come by because the waitresses are busy tending all the other tables. So you may be wondering why I'm giving them 4 stars? Well, simply put, they have good food. Their pasta is great, their chicken is juicy and well-cooked and the complimentary bread they serve is delicious. Cariera's is no Roman Village, but when I want Italian with less of a drive, it's where I'll end up.

    My friends who live in Dearborn swear by this place so we went out to dinner with them a few weeks ago. I am Italian and my father was raised there, as well as my family still lives there so I am kind of a Italian food snob. Suffice to say, this place did not disappoint. I ordered the seafood ravioli and it was delicious. The bread they brought to the table was great but the oil and spices plate to dip into was a bit salty for my taste. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food and the service was good. I will for sure go back there but since it's not all that close, it won't be unless we go with our friends or are in the area.

    I love Italian food! My boyfriend also loves Italian food, but is not as crazy about all the bread and pasta that usually comes with it, plus it is a little bit expensive (though worth it), so we do not come here as often as I might like. GENERAL I love the ambiance here. It really is how I imagine a little Italian cafe to be. I really should not say little, because it is a medium-sized restaurant, but it has a cozy feel. FOOD They have a fairly diverse menu, but both times I have been here, I have had the Pollo (chicken) Marsala. My boyfriend gets the Tenderloin Portabella. We also love the breadsticks with olive oil. I believe if I did not insist on only eating a couple because I know I want to enjoy my meal as well, I could probably just eat breadsticks and go away full. My chicken marsala is a large portion and comes with a side of pasta in sauce. The chicken is delicious, moist and juicy. The sauce is wonderful. I am not as thrilled with the sauce on the pasta, but it is okay. My boyfriend always seems to enjoy his meal as well, and I have had a bite of his entree once or twice and it was very good. One time, we also had dessert. We ordered the Ultimate Chocolate Cake. I probably do not need to say it was delicious, but I will. It was delicious! I only wish I could leave room for it every time. SERVICE I have never seen a server who was not polite and somewhat friendly. Both times we have been it was early in the dinner period (around 4pm) so they were not very busy. They are always quite timely and when you are done, they box up your food and neatly write the dish name and the date on the box. Even many of the nicer restaurants I have been to do not do this. I will definitely be back many, many times and this restaurant is now on our top 4 favorite places to go for dinner around home.

    The ambiance is great in here especially on a Friday night. They have a guy who plays guitar and sometimes sings all of the great hits from different genres of music. On to the food. No matter what you get, the portions are a nice size. The bread they bring out on your arrival is very tasty, especially when it is warm. We've had the veal, the pizza, tortellini, and several other pasta dishes. Everything is great, and the meat is always tender. Also, for kids, the chicken fingers were really good. We've been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks, so that's a sign of the delicousness therein.

  • Cariera's describes itself as a casual fine-dining restaurant. I think that's a pretty good description. The restaurant seems simple and casual, yet somehow classy. It's a restaurant where you can have a casual meal with family, friends or business partners. It's also a restaurant you could take a date to or celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Back in high school, we even dined there in our evening wear before school dances. On the weekends there is often a little live music in the background. It's nothing overpowering, just some nice acoustic guitar or string bass. It really sets the mood. Between the ambiance, decor, food and wine, you may imagine yourself in Italy rather than snowy Michigan. The food is scrumptious. I particularly like the gnocci with marinara sauce, fettuccini alfredo with grilled chicken, and the creamy romano dressing on the house salad that comes with the entree. The salad can be substituted for soup, and they usually have a pretty tasty minnestrone. The Italian eatery recently added outdoor seating. Smoking is now only allowed at the bar and on the outdoor patio, I believe. The restaurant also offers catering and has a take-out menu.

    If you like Olive garden...do not come here. If you love Deluca's, stay away. This is good food. The diverse dishes and fresh sauces, make this a full head and then some above any other Italian restaurant in the area. I had the peppered chicken , Penne pasta with peppered chicken which was so tender and flavorful, green and red pepper, garlic and oil dressing. There was so much, I got lunch for tomorrow! The bread basket has the freshest bread and dip of garlic, salt and olive oil. The house Italian dressing is creamy, but not the thick gooey type you find in most other places. You can also get an oil based Italian dressing, which has the best herbs and spices. They do have a small herb garden just outside the front door...could be where most of that comes from. Reservations are recommended but the wait is worth it.

    My first visit to Cariera's (tonight) can be described in one word--Yummy! The Minestrone soup, especially, was out of this world. (FYI: It is not your typical, tomato-based version.) My only "complaint" is the small charge ($1.50) for asking to split a bill. Seems silly to me, especially when it is only 2-3 people. Will go back again...with cash so as to continue to avoid that fee.

    Lets start by saying I really enjoy the ambiance. The minute Me and my friend walked in the door we were greeted and seated within 20 seconds flat, seriously if they had a world record for how fast you could be seated in a Restaurant these guys would win. Anyway our waiter was friendly and delightful as well. Lets start with the fresh bread sticks that are pipping hot right from the oven along with fresh olive oil. We ordered the calamari which came with two sauces, it was very tasty I just though the calamari could have been cooked just a little longer but other then that it was a traditional appetizer. I ordered rigatoni with a spicy blush sauce and meatballs. The sauce was amazing. It was a mixture of spicy aribiata and alfredo, with the meatballs and parmesan cheese it was delicious. And I must say hands down they have some amazing minestrone soup! They make it very different then most places I go to but none the less they have absolutely nailed it in my opinion. Overall 5 star experience I highly recommend this to anyone in the area.

    I love this place...I've been eating here most of my life, it was a different Italian restaurant prior which was also good but I didn't care much for their pasta sauce but this place, I love their sauce. I've had various items on the menu & I have never had an issue with any of it from pizza to lasagna I've always left satisfied. Their house dressings (Italian or creamy Romano) are so good though the fact that they don't have ranch bothers a friend of mine (I say live a little). Their bread is yummy & most importantly their service is great. The place is small & they usually have a guitarist playing some nice background music when I'm in. I also need to be sure to suggest this place for baby/bridal showers...they don't open on Sundays until 4 so from 11-3:30 they offer banquets & from what I've heard the prices are very reasonable & I hate showers but I never miss one of it's here!

    I love this place, it's not pretentious, it is just a family Italian place with good food and decent prices. You can almost always find a $5 off coupon somewhere, either in the local saver you get in the mail or on their own carryout menu. I love their chicken marsala and chicken cacciatore. My husband loves the filet gorgonzola, which I don't even think is on the menu anymore, but they will still make it and it is incredible (two filets smothered in gorgonzola cheese, mushrooms, and a white wine sauce). I've had the chicken tosca, it is also really nice especially if you love lemon. The cannelloni is very good. It's not old and dirty like some old Italian places, it has a pretty good atmosphere, but can get pretty hectic by the door and small bar area as they do quite a bit of business.

    Though everything I posted in my previous review was from the heart, I have to say the last few times I have been in Cariera's it has been less then stellar and I may never return. Cariera's has Changed their menu, increased the prices across the menu and no longer has things that long time patrons expect. Things here have taken a turn for the worse since the Death of the owner and family taking over the business. Its just not the same place anymore and it shows. I wish it was not true.

    This place looks a bit sad from the outside, but on the inside you will find a warm, inviting, slightly upscale decor. Live music is frequently present on Friday and Saturday nights. The food is tasty, particularly the house Romano dressing, the parmesan breadsticks, and any kind of pasta you choose. And the kicker is the prices are extremely reasonable, much less than you would expect to pay for this nice of a restaurant in the Detroit metro area.

    If your familiar with Italian dining in Detroit, you will know there is an abundance of very good place to get your fill. They are all great and I think all the arguing about the best italian is regionally based on what you know, and what is close to you (kinda like italian bakeries... it's the best because you have been going there since you were 5). I have done the test and ate at most of the good italian spots around town and cannot say one is better than the other because they are al amazing at what they do. I was giving a $50 gift certificate to this place by uncle because him and my grandmother hold it in high regard. I cannot argue with their taste, the place was great. My girlfriend got a tri-colored pasta that she was not particularly happy with, but not due to poor execution, more because of personal taste. I don't remember what I had the first time, but I went back again so it had to have been good. We happened to go on a friday our first time so there was a nice band playing to a packed house. My second time around was bit more disappointing. The food was still very good (gnocchi in a bolognese), but the service had changed significantly. Upon delivering the unfinished half of my pasta to my grandmother she informed me the change in food and service was due to the death of Mr. Cariera. She said she won't be going back now because "the sauce doesn't taste the same". I still think the food is pretty good though.

    I have been known to make a drive to go to a great restaurant. I first found out about this restaurant through my mobibo app, and a few weeks later I was asking some friends for somewhere new to take a date. Someone threw this restaurant out in the mix, and so I decided to give it a shot. Was definitely the right choice to make. I told my date where we were heading, and that they specialized in Italian dishes. She had previously mentioned she was a fan of Italian food, but failed to mention that it was her favorite kind of food. Jackpot so far, and I am praying they lived up to the recommendations through food and service. We arrived and were seated, then opened our menus. Everything sounded so good. Tried to stick with something I knew, so that if it didn't pan out in my favor I didn't lead my date to my non-verbal passing of judgement on the food or our experience. She ordered the Pollo Tosca (if I remember correctly), and I had the Linguine Carbonara. Seemed like white wine would go best with our meal, so I ordered a bottle of white Italiano wine haphazardly , and I think I got it right (I really am not good at picking out wines). Everything seemed to be going very well, we had smiles all around and talked about how good our meals were. The Carbonara was amazing, just the right flavor of Carbonara sauce and bacon and not too much onion. Perfect. I did not try my dates meal, as it was a first date and that would have been awkward in my book to be sharing food already. So sorry, no judgement on her dish, but she seemed to like it very much. We drank some wine, did some more talking, and our waiter seemed to know what was going on and tried to stop over only if needed in order to not interrupt our conversation. At least that is what I believe to have happened, if not I wouldn't have been too angry. The price was a little up there, but then again I took the bottle home with me, so it seemed reasonable for that. Great atmosphere, great service, and really great Italian food. Highly recommended for those in the area. Made a first date for me go really well!
